If you want to know how to build wind power at your house for cheap, there are several questions you need to ask at the front end of the process. Making a windmill yourself is by far the least expensive way to go. Doing this yourself can save a lot of money – up to half of the cost of the wind turbine.

If you want to get this done right here are the things you need to focus on:

1. Study before you get started – the smartest way to get going right early is to buy a set of drawings preferably with video or audio explanations for how you build and install your wind turbine. One system is called Earth4Energy and it does just that, but there are others that will do the same thing. It is important to not only understand how to construct the wind turbine but to understand how it works once it is doing its job in the field. This will save you a lot later on when you are having to ascertain the reason for a problem that has occurred.

2. Spend some time thinking about what you want to do with the power that comes out of the other end of your wind turbine – there are of course any number of great things you can do with the power you make. If you want to supply power to your entire house that may be an option. But you need a lot of wind in order to do that. You can also supply power to just one pump or appliance. Many people just charge a set of batteries and then think about later what they’re going to use the batteries to power.

3. Initially concentrate on battery arrays and do not do anything bigger than that – if you focus on batteries you need to understand that they are no different for the windmill than any other kind of batteries. They need to be stored in a cool and dry place to maintain their charge. You will be charging a large array of batteries for you need to make sure they are in an out-of-the-way place.

4. Make sure you install the turbine in a place that you can get to – when problems occur, you don’t want to have to be climbing up on hundred foot tower to repair them if you don’t have to. Even though you may not get as much wind on your roof you run a lot better position to do the work on the turbine yourself which could save you money in the long run.

One strategy many people have used is to take the money they have saved by building their own wind turbine at home and use that to purchase additional renewable energy resources – such as additional wind turbines. This is the way to build wind power that will last a lifetime and save you money every year, from here on out.
